Erie is Pennsylvania's fourth largest city and hometown of our nation's 1st Director of Homeland Security, Tom Ridge. A beautiful and dynamic city located in northwestern Pennsylvania, Erie is truly "Eriesistible!" With seven miles of natural beaches (Presque Isle State Park), Lake Erie for boating, water skiing, and fishing, a friendly community, a AA Baseball team and OHL Hockey, you'll find plenty of things to do! Erie is small enough to keep that "home town" feeling, yet big enough to offer cultural and artistic events - something for everyone! See our furry friends at the Erie Zoo, take in live performances at the Erie Playhouse, take in the outstanding Erie Philharmonic, enjoy an evening with the Lake Erie Ballet Company, or visit the U.S. Brig Niagara or the Erie Maritime Museum.
If you're a history buff, there's always something to discover. Lake Erie has played an important role in Erie's past and present; it's only fitting, then, that the city's newest showplace pays homage to that tradition. The Erie Maritime Museum features multi-media exhibits on the geological and ecological development of the Great Lakes; the War of 1812 and the Battle of Lake Erie; and examines life aboard a wooden warship. A reconstruction of the mid-ship section of the Lawrence, Oliver Hazard Perry's first flagship, sits near the actual prow of the Wolverine, the U.S. Navy's first iron-hulled ship. When in port, the Flagship Niagara is docked at a special slip here.
Dobbins Landing is a special place to all Erie natives and offers an excellent place to have a meal, whether on the water or dry land. Take a dinner cruise on the Victorian Princess. And enjoy the calm waters of Presque Isle Bay. Landlubbers can find taverns and full-service restaurants at the foot of State Street near Dobbins Landing. After dinner, visit the Bicentennial Tower and then wander over to the Bayfront Gallery, where local artists display locally crafted art, antiques and maritime curios and artifacts.
Nothing can beat the beautiful summer on Lake Erie - breathtaking sunsets, Discover Presque Isle Days, and the Erie Summer Festival of the Arts.
